Smoke House "Mühlgrub" Open-Air Museum,
The 500 year old historical monument “Rauchhaus Mühlgrub” is a typical small farmhouse of the Flachgau region of Salzburg in its original form, integrating living, quarters, stall and working areas under one roof.
The "Rauchhaus" (that means "Smoke House"), a farm designated as a monument, is located on the high ridge between Thalgau and Hof and is embedded romantically in an orchard of old fruit trees. The name "Smoke House" applies as the smoke rose from the open stove without chimney located in the house (hall). Over the stove one finds a wooden "fire hat" to repel sparks, above the house in the attic is a kind of stage made of planks with trap doors as a smoking floor on which sheaves of grain were stored for drying out. The "Rauchhaus" can be rented for small events (readings, birthday, ..) and different events over the year are planed by the Tourist Office. More information and a brochure about Lucky Places in the Fuschlsee Region are available at the Tourist Office Hof bei Salzburg.
