Of course music plays a major role at Christmastime. Festive horn players, parlour music and traditional Christmas carols form the framework for the Advent season in the Fuschlsee Region.
But did you know that Joseph Mohr, who wrote the text for the famous and loveliest Christmas carol of the world, “Silent Night, Holy Night” was a vicar here in the village of Hintersee?
Visit the beholding little mountain village in the Osterhorn mountain range and visit Joseph Mohr`s first independent parish. For almost 10 years, Joseph Mohr lived here in Hintersee and today it is still the smallest parish in Austria. Here too you will find the “Silent Night, Holy Night” trail, and during a winter stroll along the Silent Night path, one can learn interesting facts about Joseph Mohr and his life here.
Here in the Fuschlsee Region, the time around Christmas is something rather special. Waiting for Christmas is traditionally accompanied by many customs. Firmly established and authentic, many rituals around the festive season have been preserved and lovingly passed on from generation to generation. Making the Advent wreaths, Krampus runs and Raunächte are all part of the genuine alpine Advent in the Salzkammergut – as are also the many larger and smaller Christkindl markets and Christmas fairs.
Visitors value the quiet, beautiful and genuine atmosphere of our Advent markets and enjoy being enchanted by the scent of fir trees, incense and fresh Christmas biscuits. Treat yourself to a few quiet days and enjoy Christmas in a cosy atmosphere in the Fuschlsee Region in the Province of Salzburg.
