Through the 53,3 m long gallery the water is transmited out of the Schwarzaubach gorge into the water wheel of the forge.
The 1,8 m high gallery was driven through the Dolomitrock possibly in the 18th century by means of blasting with gun powder. Today many of the 30-60cm deep hand chiselled holes for the gunpowder are still visible.
Due to the excellent consistence of the dolomite rock there is no subsidence and support by wooden pillars is not necessary.
During the 2nd World War the inhabitants used the tunnels as a safety bunker.
