You can start anywhere. We recommend travelling the route in a clockwise direction and starting in Koppl to start. Ideal starting point: the town centre or the Park & Ride barrier bridge. The tour can be travelled daily. On certain days of the week you will find special highlights, such as a weekly market or an open farm shop. Depending on the weather (snow), the tour is possible from approx. mid-April to mid-October . A Cycling holiday at Lake Fuschl offers varied routes with impressive nature experiences. The most suitable days for this are Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The ideal start time is between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m., the ideal end of the tour is between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m., depending on the destination and month. For this tour you will need a mountain bike, e-mountain- or gravel bike.
At the "Huberbauern", father Hermann and son Urban Deisl create an unusual combination: Urban and his partner have dedicated themselves entirely to organic sheep's milk and produce all kinds of delicacies in their own cheese dairy. The senior runs adistillerywhere he produces around 40 brandies - from rowanberry to carrot or beetroot brandy.
The paradise for classic car fans is the Manro - Classic Auto & Music Museum with vehicles from the 1930s to the 1980s. The vehicles in the museum are driven as often as possible. They are in roadworthy condition and are put on display at various excursions and classic car rallies.
Then we recommend a quick look at the tailor's studio of master costume tailor Elisabeth Größlinger in Koppl near Salzburg. Many traditional music bands in the region are also regular customers of the "Wonnebauer".
Continue in the direction of Hof bei Salzburg along the south side of the Salzburgring towards the Koppl district of Ladau and up to a traditional farm on the right-hand side. From here you have a wonderful view to the west towards Salzburg, the Gaisberg, the Nockstein (summit and landmark of the municipality of Koppl) and an old lime tree down in the valley. The route then descends to Hof bei Salzburg.
There are two worthwhile stops in Hof bei Salzburg: the Gusswerk organic brewery (currently only ramp sales, no catering) and, a few metres further on, the Fellhof, a shop selling fashion and accessories for sheepskins and lambskins. In between you will also find the Lagerhaus, which is both a grocery shop and DIY store. The path leads north of Hof and past the church towards the Fuschlsee nature reserve (north-west shore). Alternatively, numerous cafés, a pizzeria and other catering establishments along the main road invite you to take a break. There are also drugstores and a sports shop.
Alternative federal road to Fuschl am See:
You can also cycle directly from Hof to Fuschl am See on the asphalt cycle path along the main route, with first-class views of Lake Fuschl and the opportunity to take a detour to the lakeshore at the Schloss Fuschl fishery.
We stay on the S 528 and do not take a shortcut, but continue via Thalgau-Egg north of Lake Fuschl to Fuschl am See. Hof takes us downhill along the north-western shore of Lake Fuschl (nature reserve) to the Berger snack station, an ideal resting place. The route then continues uphill with views of the towering Schober and past the Baumgarten wine tavern.
Tip: From here, a path to the left of the main road leads up to Ansitz Wartenfels at the foot of the Schober, from where a short detour on foot to the Wartenfels ruins is possible.
Uphill and downhill through the mountain forest at the foot of the Schober, we leave the forest and are rewarded with a wonderful view over Lake Fuschl. Just before reaching the village of Fuschl am See, we pass the Waldhof-Alm, a refreshment stop with a fantastic view of Lake Fuschl. There are several places to stop for refreshments right by the lake, including restaurants, pizzerias, cafés, beach bars and guest gardens. Opening times vary depending on the season and day of the week.
The mill is located in a forest clearing on the Ellmaubach and is worth a visit for its culinary delights. From the start of the summer season, fresh bread is baked there on Tuesday afternoons. On Friday afternoons, the local farmers' wives bake fresh doughnuts and pancakes, and on Saturday afternoons there is a typical snack.
From Fuschl am See, continue over the Perfalleck towards Faistenau. But you won't reach the town centre until later. Before that, Tiefbrunnau, a side valley of the municipality, offers a real meat adventure: the Galloway cattle on the Teufl organic farm. The meat specialities are sold in the farm shop after being slaughtered in-house.
After the hearty delicacies, you now head up the forest road to the mountain pasture, where you can toboggan down in winter. You will be rewarded for the climb at the idyllic Hatzenalm mountain hut. Every mountain tour needs a cosy hut. The popular mountain hut is located at an altitude of 1045 metres and serves "baked mice" for those with a sweet tooth. We then descend along beautiful forest roads to Hintersee, always with a view of the rock face of the Feichtenstein.
Attention fork: Here we either follow the classic path S528 to the right towards Lake Hintersee (Hirschpoint bathing area) or straight ahead towards the municipality of Hintersee, and then along the road from Hintersee to the south-western shore of Lake Hintersee.
The municipality of Hintersee is also the starting point for eMTB bike adventures such as the Osterhorn-MTB-Runde TG18 via the Genneralm (from Hintersee to Lämmerbach and up to the Genneralm down to Ackersbach, Voglau, Seewaldsee, St. Kolomann and via the Grundbichlalm up to the Bergalm and back down to Hintersee) or the eMTB Trail S442 from Hintersee to Gaißau via the Anzenberg to the Latschenalm and Spielbergalm to Krispl-Gaissau and back.
The Hintersee
The shore of the Hintersee is only accessible by bike on the mountain side (western shore). If you want to jump into the water at the northern end or make a stop, we recommend the Lago Bar directly on the lake or a little further north towards the road, the CaVino.
From the Vordersee district, continue north along the road and then take the side road (after the Hotel Fischerwirt, right next to CaVino) to Faistenau.
There is also an information office in the centre of Faistenau, as well as a bank branch.
Another culinary adventure with a large selection of wines from Austria and Italy, Mediterranean delicacies and the finest chocolate can be found at CaVino in the Faistenau district of Vordersee.
Farm pastry shop and apiary
Master confectioner Katharina "Kathi" Klaushofer will make you feel good in her flower café. The farmhouse is also a bread bakery and apiary, and Kathi is proud of her herb garden with over 100 medicinal herbs. And the bike adventurers can also discover and taste all of this, because in addition to the typical regional sweet classics, the master confectioner also serves unusual specialities such as her nut cake with wood shavings, sponge cake with baked-in flower blossoms or a nettle cake with tomato jam.
CaVino
Stop off at CaVino in Faistenau with wine sommelier Walter Wenger Jr. and his wife Barbara. They run the cosy restaurant very warmly and spoil their guests with antipasti, fine wines and homemade desserts.
GustaF. MeatBoutique
In his meat boutique, grill master Richard Walkner offers special delicacies ranging from local pork to bison. The speciality lies in the maturing method, which Richard likes to talk about at tastings and barbecue evenings. As a trained beer sommelier, he also serves special beers, spirits and more. In the sales room, not only meat lovers will find everything they need for the perfect barbecue, such as sauces, spices and barbecue accessories.
Continue from Faistenau on our route S528 at the foot of the Lidaun mountain to Ebenau. Here you will find the Ebnerwirt snack station midway along the route. A truly rustic rarity from which it is only downhill to Ebenau.
If you're looking for a cool down, a gorge adventure and a photo location, head via the Strubklamm gorge and the Felbertal valley to Ebenau. First of all, it's downhill from the village of Faistenau on tarmac. Once you reach the junction at the bottom, you can take a detour to the left to the "Felsenbad" or turn right along the gorge towards Ebenau.
Here you can also take a break at the Strubklamm inn, known by the locals as the "Seewirt".
The Strubklamm gorge and the Almbach stream are also known for canyoning adventures, which are offered by Vertical-One-Canyoning and the Hotel-Gasthof Obermayr, among others, on advance booking.
Did you start in Fuschl am See?
If you feel like it or just don't feel like it anymore, you can cycle from Faistenau on the tarmac road towards Tiefbrunnau and via Schönaustraße via Stegmühle then on to the turn-off to the left to Fuschl am See via the Perfalleck to Fuschl am See.
Depending on which route you have chosen, you will either come out in the centre of Ebenau (on the classic S528). There, the museum in the Fürstenstöckl shows the historical importance of Ebenau as a centre of iron, copper and brass processing.
The Dorfwirt, commonly known as the Schnitzelwirt, lives up to its name with a wide selection of schnitzels.
If you take the route from Faistenau via Strubklamm/Felbertal, you will reach the main road at Gasthof Obermayr, from where you head north to the village of Ebenau and on to Plötz.
