The Emaus-Jünger is a brass band that plays on original instruments in the old Austrian 'high tuning' (a' = 461 Herz).
Since its foundation in 1988, mainly on the initiative of Andreas Zenker, old high tuning instruments have been collected in the countries of the former Danube Monarchy and painstakingly restored by local instrument makers. The band has been organised as an association since 2007. The musicians of the Emaus-Jünger come from various communities around Salzburg: the origins of this brass band lie in Ebenau ("Emau").
The musicians are not only Ebenau pupils, but the instrument maker also found a dead mouse while repairing a helicon. The musicians are "younger" because their average age 20 years ago was much lower than that of the local traditional brass band. The repertoire of the Emaus-Jünger consists mainly of traditional Austrian and Bohemian brass music.
Depending on the occasion - birthday parties, funerals, weddings, morning pints or concerts - the Emaus-Jünger perform in different formations: The smallest formation is a quartet. There is also a dance band with 6 to 10 members. The original 12-piece ensemble is now often expanded to 24 musicians, and for special occasions a large brass band with up to 50 instruments can be assembled.
