The gate to the Salzkammergut.

The emerald green Fuschlsee is located in the eastern Flachgau and belongs to the Salzkammergut. It is owned by the Österreichischen Bundesforste AG. Throughout the entire state of Salzburg and in the Salzkammergut, Fuschlsee is the cleanest and clearest lake of all. There is an absolute ban on motor boats on Fuschlsee. Therefore, the water is particularly high quality and clean and is used as drinking water.

The lake drains via the Fuschler Ache into the Mondsee and through Attersee, Ager, and Traun into the Danube.

“Hofküchensee” was the name given to Fuschlsee at a time when Salzburg's archbishops still used Schloss Fuschl for hunting trips. This meant that all the fishing from the lake was exclusively reserved for the archbishop's table – evidence of the particularly good quality of the fish from the crystal clear waters of Fuschlsee. Today, 14 different fish species live in Fuschlsee.

Key data about Fuschlsee:
Length: 4.1 km
Width: 0.9 km
Maximum depth: 67.3 m
Lake elevation: 664 m

Help protect Fuschlsee

Your equipment was previously in another lake? Then help preserve the special water quality of Fuschlsee.

Quagga mussels and crayfish plague can unknowingly be spread from one body of water to another via water sports, fishing, or diving equipment.

Here’s how to protect Fuschlsee:

  1. Completely empty the water

  2. Thoroughly clean the equipment

  3. Allow to dry completely for at least 4 days – before moving to another lake

No time to dry? It’s best to use a rental service directly at the lake.

Thank you for helping to protect our Fuschlsee!
