Triathlon hotel: Hotel Jakob in Fuschl am See is a paradise for triathletes

He has a heart for the sport of triathlon and works where others spend the holidays. Leon Zimmermann is an employee at the Jakob Road Bike and Triathlon Hotel in Fuschl am See. Experience the interesting facts about the sporting opportunities around Lake Fuschl and what a triathlete's holiday at Hotel Jakob is like.

The transformation of a country hotel: from Mohrenwirt to racing bike and triathlon hotel

In the heart of Fuschl am See you will find the popular 4-star road bike and triathlon hotel Jakob. The Schmidlechner family has owned the hotel since 1846. It used to be known as a classic country hotel under the name "Hotel Mohrenwirt". In 2009, the hotel owner and enthusiastic sportsman Jakob Schmidlechner took part in the Mondsee Triathlon and a cycling marathon. At that time he recognised the potential of the Fuschlseeregion for this particular sport, and decided to perfect the hotel for this area. Which he has visibly succeeded in doing to this day.

Loved by swimmers, cyclists and runners: Triathlonhotel Jakob in Fuschl am See

The triathlon consists of three endurance sports: swimming, cycling and running. These are completed in different distances and categories, but always in this order. What luck that in Fuschl am See - as the name suggests - there is the Fuschlsee, which is ideally suited for the swimming and running categories.

Lake Fuschl is ideal for open-water swimmers, as only electric boats are allowed on the lake - compared to many others - which of course significantly reduces the risk of accidents caused by motorboats. The 11km long, beautiful hiking trail around the Fuschlsee lake, which is also a popular running route, covers the running category perfectly. Several popular racing bike routes - such as the "5 Lakes Bike Tour" - are also located in the Fuschlseeregion. Thus the location of a Triathlon Hotel Jakob in the centre of Fuschl am See, is absolutely perfect.

All-round service for endurance athletes: the exclusive benefits at Triathlonhotel Jakob

In addition to the ideal location, the Hotel Jakob has other extras to offer for athletes. Starting with personal advice such as tour suggestions and training tips, to the hotel's own bike garage, an employed bike mechanic, the free 24-hour washing service for sportswear, a SPA and massage offer, to two free swimming lanes in the nearby Fuschlseebad (from 8 to 10 am). For free swimmers, a buoy has even been installed about 500 m from the south shore to help keep you oriented. As you can see, the Aktivhotel in Fuschl am See has a lot to offer. That makes every sportsman's heart beat faster!

From morning swimmer to evening connoisseur: A triathlon day at Hotel Jakob

Of course, a triathlon holiday should also feel like a holiday. Nevertheless, it is recommended for triathletes to get up early in the morning and swim a lap in the swimming pool or in Lake Fuschl. Then have breakfast, perhaps relax briefly and get on your bike to enjoy a lake-rich bike tour. Depending on how long you are on the road, there is a so-called "Après Bike Snack" from midday onwards to satisfy your hunger. If you are still motivated, you can go running in the afternoon or simply relax in the wellness area. Of course, excursions in the surrounding area or a short hike are also possible. The surrounding mountains such as Schober, Frauenkopf and Ellmaustein are perfect for an afternoon tour. The best way to round off the evening is with a nice meal at Hotel Jakob.

Employee stories: Leon Zimmermann and his passion for triathlon

The 26-year-old amateur triathlete Leon Zimmermann has already been working at Hotel Jakob for many years and has practised triathlon as a sport since the age of 15. He came to the hotel through sport, and is noticeably very happy about it.

I spent a lot of time cycling and running as a child. Later, I discovered my talent in swimming.

His father introduced him to triathlon, which he still enjoys passionately. In June 2023, he even successfully took part in the world's largest long-distance triathlon - the "Challenge Roth". However, he would like to stick to hobby sports, as he would rather do them in a relaxed way as a balance. In general, he would like this sport to become more of a deceleration sport in the future. His wish scenario would be for this sport to be practised for fun, for times to become less and less important, for people to exercise together and enjoy the landscape. Sporting goals are important, but they have to fit the life situation and be individual.

We are not professional athletes. We are hobby athletes, and we do this as a balance. It's supposed to bring us down and not stress us out even more.

The Hotel Jakob is a cosy home for everyone

Not only sportsmen feel welcome at Hotel Jakob. The cosy hotel offers families with children, couples and groups the opportunity to spend relaxing days or weeks at Lake Fuschl. The Fuschlseeregion has a wealth of experiences in store for every visitor : Hikes, excursions in the surroundings, beautiful experiences in the lake or during water sports as well as relaxing in the hotel's wellness area. Leon Zimmermann emphasises that Hotel Jakob is a place for everyone. The harmonious mix of sports enthusiasts and guests who are not primarily dedicated to sports is expressly welcomed. Everyone is welcome here.
