Getting There

By train: Salzburg main station is a perfect starting point and can be easily reached via Vienna, Graz or Munich. Bad Ischl, Bad Aussee or Attnang-Puchheim are also recommended starting points.
By car: You can reach all main villages of the Salzkammergut on the A1 Westautobahn and the federal roads of the Salzkammergut.

The Best Season

The best months for a cycling tour are May, June, September and October. In July and August is main season at the Salzkammergut lakes and thus there is more traffic on the roads and there might be problems finding overnight accommodation for one night only.

The Right Bike

Perfect are modern trekking bikes with 21 gears. Tour bicycles or city bikes with less gears are less suitable because of the climbs that have to be covered.

Accommodation

There are accommodations in almost all villages along the route. Outside of the main summer season it should be no problem finding an accommodation for one night only. The local tourist boards are happy to assist you. In July and August it is recommended to you’re your accommodation in advance.
