Route Overview

The route passes through three federal states – Upper Austria, Salzburg, and Styria – and touches a total of 13 lakes in the Salzkammergut.
Starting point: Possible in any town along the route.

  • Exceptions: Forest roads near Bad Mitterndorf & Blaa Alm

  • Many stages can be easily combined with train, bus, or boat – ideal for families and leisure cyclists.

Best Travel Time

Best months: May, June, September, and October – less traffic, pleasant weather.
July & August: High season – more traffic, advance bookings recommended.

By train:

  • Salzburg Main Station

  • Bad Ischl

  • Bad Aussee

  • Attnang-Puchheim

By car:
Via A1 motorway (Westautobahn) or federal roads to the Salzkammergut.

Bike Choice & Equipment

Recommended:

  • Trekking bike with at least 21 gears

  • Alternatively: E-bike with strong battery

Not recommended:

  • City bikes or touring bikes with weak gearing
