Spitzenkrämerhaus (1) Here we are at a place that has several stories to tell. To the right once stood the "Spitzenkrämerhaus." The so-called "Spitzkrämer" was an establishment of the cottage industry in the 19th century. The "Spitzkrämer" was a merchant who took orders for lace-making work and assigned them to home workers. The finished products were delivered to him and he sent them to the clients. The local Spitzkrämer employed an average of about 20 women. The house was located where the Baderluck intersection is today. To the right, you can see the beginning of today's Seestraße, which back then was still the main road to Fuschl am See and passed directly under the "Strumecker" farmhouse. Before you turn left into the forest, it's worth taking a few steps along the road, as you can enjoy the beautiful view over Lake Fuschl, which has also been worth seeing in earlier times. The painting "Lake Fuschl with the Schafberg": Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, born on January 15, 1797, had taken a vacation starting in early August 1835 and traveled to Bad Ischl. During his stay, he painted the famous picture of the Dachstein from Bad Ischl, as well as three paintings of St. Wolfgang. However, he also made a detour to our area and created the painting “Lake Fuschl with the Schafberg,” size 54 x 28.5cm, oil on cardboard. The painting shows the lake with Feldberg, a small part of the southern side of Schober, Eibenseekopf, Schafberg, the Ellmaustein above the village of Fuschl, and in the background to the right, the Katergebirge with the Katrin near Bad Ischl. When looking through between Ellmaustein and Katrin, the Sandling can still be seen in the distance. In the foreground, you can see the “Moor” and not yet completely painted, the farmhouse of “Strumeck.” The place where Waldmüller must have set up his “easel” is on a small hill (formerly called “Spitzkrämer-Bichl”), directly opposite the former inn Baderluck, between Wolfgangseestraße and Seestraße on private property. The painting is currently in the collection of the Princes of Liechtenstein at Schloss Vaduz. The municipality of Hof has acquired a color photo of the painting.
