It is a mini glacier. During the winter months, avalanches regularly fall from the steeply sloping slopes of the Wieserhörndl into the valley floor, where the snow falls due to the high fall speed (albeit height difference of approx. 750 m) to a kind of “baby glacier. ” In the course of the snow melt, the end of the Firnkegels, which is located downhill, is increasingly undermined, creating a chapel-like space. The formation of the ice chapel is subject to weather and snow conditions and is accordingly strong or weak. Tour: The tour to the ice chapel is a contemplative hike that is just as suitable for families as for joggers or Nordic walkers. The start is the old wood storage site of the Bundesforste in the district Vordersee. From there it goes over a small wooden bridge, counterclockwise further along the Hinterseerundweg to the south shore. Now we keep to the right, past a warehouse to a small mill. From here, the trail leads along the Griesbach to the ice chapel at the end of the valley. The hike to the ice chapel is suitable for all ages with good footwear. Child car suitable, however, only along the Hinterseerundweg. Do not enter the ice cave, here there is a danger of life due to falling, melting snow masses!
