The people of Fuschl am See had to make the long journey to Thalgau for their Sunday church service and the pastoral needs of the faithful were administered too from here. The dead also had to be buried in the Thalgau cemetery. There was often a loudly expressed wish for a separate church from the inhabitants but the poverty of the population and the resistance of the relevant Thalgau priests, allowed no such thought of building a church. The start of the building of a church was delayed until 1804 due to lack of funds and discord over the right building site. Fires: 6th July 1870 – lightening struck the church steeple but damage not extensive 10th June 1880 – again lightening in the church tower and the church was in flames. The church tower, the altars and sculptures were badly damaged and the roof of the nave collapsed. The church is named after Holy Erasmus whose patron saints day is 2nd June which is always celebrated. From 1973 until August 2003 Wolfgang Peschke was the vicar in Fuschl am See. Since September 2016 Priest Joachim Hagel O.Praem. is in the parish as provisional vicar and Birgit Schedl is resident in Fuschl am See as parish assistant.
