Hallstatt Saltmines Exhibition - follow the traces of the "Mann in the Salt"

Salt has been mined here, in the world's oldest salt mine, for 7000 years.
Stroll through the famous burial ground to the place where the legendary "Man in the Salt" was unearthed, and experience an incredible journey through time. This is an amazing experience for all, regardless of the weather.

In 1734 the fully preserved body of a prehistoric miner was found in the Hallstatt Salt Mine, known today as the "Man in Salt". Join an escorted tour of the Hallstatt Salt Worlds and examine the most sensational location of finds in the Alps – the place where the "Man in Salt" was found over 300 years ago.
The true story of the "Man in the Salt" begins in the "Miners' House". Throughout the tour you will discover fascinating facts about the history of the salt mines. Two long miners' slides take you deep undeground to the mystic salt lake. A mine train returns you safely and comfortably back into the daylight. Sturdy footwear and warm clothing are essential.

The Hallstatt Higher Valley
The Hallstatt miners used to live in this Higher Valley which can be reached today by mine train in just a few minutes. The new "Panorama Lift" and the viewing bridge allow you to enjoy the famous "World Heritage View" towards Hallstatt, the lake and surrounding mountains. There is a special theme trail through the burial ground, 2 exhibitions as well as a "show grave". For those who wish to learn more, an audio guide is available to hire in 10 languages and costs 2 Euros. This is available from the salt mine train ticket counter.
A visit to the beautiful sun terrace at the "Rudolfsturm" restaurant for refreshments is highly recommended.
